George Smith will open the program playing a collection of patriotic songs on the Grand Page Organ at 1PM, followed by a Veteran's remembrance ceremony at 2:30, sponsored by the DAR.
Old Heart is out for the 81st anniversary of World War 2 European Liberation. The film tells the story of a World War 2 vet Tom Johnson, who ditches his family’s plan to send him off to assisted living. He disappears on a flight to Amsterdam determined to find Sarah van Praag, a Jewish Dutch translator he worked with during the war. With his family in hot pursuit he is determined to rediscover the love of his life.
Winner of eight festival best feature awards and two dozens honors for acting, directing, editing, cinematography, the score and costuming, this film is also a tribute to elder independence. The film, starring Edward Gaines, Diane Van Wesep, Eva Doueiri, Jamelle Sargent, Shannon Huneryager, Zaneta Adams and Kurt Schroeder focuses on the Red Ball Express, the only integrated unit in the segregated American Army that fought the world’s greatest racist.
Directed by Kirk Wahamaki and Leslye Witt, Old Heart was edited by Gene Gamache. Producer Roger Rapoport adapted the screenplay from the novel by Indianapolis author Peter Ferry who died in September 2024, the week filming began. We dedicate this film to his memory.
